Remembering Jerry Springer!

Story by Mitchell Smith
Hello everyone. Today we lost an American icon. Gerald Norman Springer was born in 1944 in London England. He is most famous for his TV show The Jerry Springer show where he had some of the most twisted messed up people come onto his show. It was very entertaining and I’m sure everyone at some point has heard a story in real life and said that should be a Jerry Springer show!
Springer’s parents escaped the Holocaust during WWII and ended up in Queens, NY where Springer grew up. Springer was very active in politics throughout his life and held and ran for various government positions including a one year term as Mayor and his campaign running for governor. He had also considered running for Senate around 2000 but his talk show made him a little too big for the job. Early on in his broadcasting career, Springer did radio at Tulane University and later was hired by NBC as a political reporter. The Jerry Springer show started out as a political show before they revamped it into its modern form.
The show confronted many people about issues in modern life. Looking back many of his shows were a gateway to facing many human rights issues that have plagued our country and creating a more equal world. He is a name that will be around for generations to come. RIP Mr. Springer you will be missed. Be sure and comment below and share with us your memories of watching the Jerry Springer show.
